Chapter 3

June 8 and 9, 2020: The Searches and My Interview

In my words

On the night of June 8, police came into the house on Stockton Drive. Chris Johnson and I were inside. They took us both out. Hours later, in the interview room, I told them I did not kill Randall, and I told them who I believed did. That was Derik Brown. I have said the same thing ever since.

Walking All Over the Crime Scenes

Police video from the searches at 6305 Stockton Drive and 4088 Teakwood Drive. Watch how the scenes were handled: who walks where, what gets touched, and when.

No crime scene tape at Stockton. Plain clothes investigators, labeled Emery, Johnson and Stokes, carry bins out of the houses and camper while the driveway where the victim was supposed to be is left unsecured. Officers were more interested in ransacking the houses than securing the driveway or camper area.

Chris Johnson’s own words

Chris Johnson in a police interview: People had been in my house. I believe police planted IDs. This shows what Johnson reported; it is his statement, not a proven fact.

In his recorded interview just after 1:00 AM on June 9, Johnson told police that in the days before that night, his house keys had been taken and people had been in his house; he described a white man and a white woman and a driver’s license left in his front room. Those are his statements, recorded by police.

Item 177
