Five weeks before trial, the State brought a new indictment with five counts. And two days before that, the prosecutor wrote my lawyer about a meeting with Derik Brown.

April 8, 2024: the State’s letter about Derik Brown

The prosecutor writes to defense counsel that federal agents, Chattanooga police and two assistant district attorneys held a proffer with Brown in November 2021, and that Brown “is hoping to receive a downward departure for providing assistance to authorities regarding the homicide of Randall Leslie.” The letter then sets out Brown’s account.
