What this means for Donyell
Kiara Carson’s accounts do not match each other, the detective said there was not enough to call it a kidnapping, and the Grand Am at the center of her story was listed to Randall Leslie. Item 177 was “found” in that car four months later.
Two accounts
- May 28, 2020: a Chattanooga Police report, No. 20-052168, logged as Kidnapping/Abduction at a gas station.
- June 8, 2020: a second interview with a different account. The time of that interview is 6:46 PM in one police record, 4:06 PM in the search-warrant affidavit, and about 4:02 PM on the interview-room clock.
- On the recording the detective says he does not “have enough to say … kidnapped” and that she “went up there willingly.”
- On June 8 police offered to relocate her.
The Grand Am
- The dispatch record lists Grand Am CSV445 with owner “LESLIE RANDALL,” entered as stolen.
- June 3, 2020: found by South Pittsburg police in Marion County, steering column punched, towed to Precision Towing.
- October 1, 2020: Item 177, 97 rounds of TW69 military ammunition in a disposable-gloves bag, was logged from that car, after the evidence report had already ended at Item 176 with “END OF REPORT.”
Quotes from police recordings and trial audio come from machine transcripts that are being checked by ear against the recordings. The recordings themselves are the record.
