What this means for Donyell
The Grand Am listed to Randall Leslie sat in a private tow lot for four months with no seal or hold record. Then police said they found 97 rounds in it, after their evidence report had already ended.
The car
- The dispatch record lists Grand Am CSV445, owner “LESLIE RANDALL,” entered stolen.
- June 3, 2020: South Pittsburg police found it in Marion County, “column punch out,” case 247492, and had it towed to Precision Towing in New Hope.
- October 1, 2020: Chattanooga crime-scene officers processed it at the tow lot and logged Item 177, 97 rounds of TW69 military ammunition in a disposable-gloves bag.
- The evidence report had ended at Item 176, “END OF REPORT.” One report calls Item 177 a “belt,” another a “plastic bag.”
- Where it was found compared with Randall: the Grand Am turned up in Marion County on June 3, 2020, recovered by South Pittsburg police. Randall’s body was found 18 days later, June 21, 2020, near 2008 Highway 41 in Jasper, also in Marion County. Two of the State’s key finds, in the same county, and that county is not where the State says he was killed. The exact spot where the car was found is in South Pittsburg case 247492, which has never been produced.
- The South Pittsburg report and any tow-lot custody record have not been produced.
